Recovery of hard coral reefs in Con Dao Ramsar Zone

On September 7th, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Department of Science and Technology informed that local recovery of hard corals in Ramsar National Park in Con Dao National Park is underway.

Accordingly, after completion, coral reefs in the Con Dao waters will be rehabilitated, followed by restoration of marine biodiversity, especially living aquatic species, coral reef reproduction, The resources of marine resources will also rapidly regenerate, freshen sea environment.

The Department of Science and Technology of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province will coordinate Con Dao National Park to organize communication training courses to raise public awareness of the restoration and protection of coral reefs in the region.

Previously, according to the management of Con Dao National Park (Ba Ria - Vung Tau province), a large number of corals in Con Dao were bleached and died on an area of 600ha to 800ha. Coral bleaching occurs very fast, in some places up to 70%.

Bleached and dying coral groups and species are mainly coral blocks, coral spikes, coral plate groups and fungal coral species. The depth of bleached coral species are from 3m to 15m (from shallow tide to full depth of coral reef distribution)
