Launch of environmental protection in tourism activities 2018

Environmental campaign in 2018 tourism theme "Green Vietnam Sea" is one of the activities in response to International Biodiversity Day 22/5/2018 and World Environment Day 05/6 / 2018

Attending the launching ceremony were Ms. Dang Thi Bich Lien - Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Le Minh Thong - Member of Standing Committee of Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of People's Committee of Nghe An province; with more than 1,000 members, youths, tourism enterprises and many people in Nghe An province.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister Dang Thi Bich Lien emphasized that Vietnam has the potential and conditions to develop tourism, especially marine resources, with 3,200 km of coastline, over 2,770km of the island and beautiful beaches from North to South. These are natural tourist resources and humanitarian invaluable to attract about 70% of international visitors to Vietnam and 50% of domestic visitors, bringing 70% of revenue to the tourism industry each year.

In addition to the advantages in the development of marine tourism, Vietnam is also facing difficult challenges such as severe impact from climate change and sea level rise; Increased pollution of the marine environment, especially in coastal waters, beaches. This not only puts pressure on the natural environment but also affects tourism.

Deputy Minister Dang Thi Bich Lien affirmed that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism identified tourism development, protection and promotion of cultural heritage values in association with environmental protection and climate change response. In furtherance of the Politburo's Resolution No. 08-NQ / TW dated 16/01/2017 on tourism development to become a spearhead economic sector, one of the tasks set for Vietnam's tourism is to protect the environment. In the coming time, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will continue to coordinate with other ministries, branches, mass organizations and localities to strengthen state management in environmental protection in general, the tourism environment in particular, raising the awareness and responsibility of the community and tourists in the areas and tourist spots in preserving and building a civilized, friendly and clean tourist environment. , contributing to sustainable tourism development.

Vice Minister Dang Thi Bich Lien also expected that this activity will be supported by the provinces / cities nationwide, especially coastal areas, by organizing practical activities, cleaning the dear sea, island, contributing to environment protection and sustainable tourism development.

Following the launching ceremony in Cua Lo town, the campaign will be carried out simultaneously in five central coastal provinces including Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Da Nang from May 18, to May 26, 2018.
