In addition to more than 130 staffs of the Park Management Board, officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces units, they mobilized more than 10 vehicles, ships, boats, canoes of agencies, units and some households in the districtalso volunteer to join.
The amount of waste from the ocean was drifted on Con Dao beaches with a mass of about 900 m3/year every year. In this figure, approximately 100 m3 of waste is sludge. Some areas wherehave the biggest amount of waste are Vong beach in Co Ong area; Bo Dap beach, Duong beach - Bay Canh islet; Bai Cat Lon - Ba islet; Dam Tre Bay ... Most of waste are plastic bottles, porcelain bottles, plastic bags, fishing nets, shoes, buoys.
At the islands, garbage come in the biggest amount in Northeast wind season andSouthwest wind season. At Bay Canh isletalone, wastes always drift on Dap beach in northeast wind season from October to March next year. They also come ashore to Bai Cat Lon beach in Southwest wind season from April to September every year. Therefore, Bay Canh Islet and Ba Islet are places where get the biggest amount of garbage.
Immediately after arriving in the area assigned, teams were divided into groups with gloves, sacks, sickles to start work. These pieces of debris nets, spongy boxes, plastic container, cover cans, bottles, jars, shoes, plastic bags quickly were collected, sorted, put into sacks and brought to processing place. Although the sun was intensely hot, everyone still was exhilarated to work. Because they know that they will contribute to clean the sea.
After two days of cleaning, teams have joined hands to clean more than 7 km of coastline and collected nearly 400m3of waste. The entire amount of waste after collecting were burned on the spot.
This activity not only contributes to clean environment, but also raises awareness of local communities, tourists and fishermen in preserving and protecting environment, no littering. This activity also contributes to protect environment, make Con Dao Beach increasingly greener, cleaner, more beautiful concurrently promote the tourism industry of the island district to develop firmly.
