A Name Rooted in History

The name “Bai Nhat” dates back to the French colonial era, when this part of Con Dao remained wild and deserted. At the time, the road to Ben Dam was only a narrow path for pedestrians and bicycles, and the beach itself was so remote and quiet that few dared to stop.
And so, the name Bai Nhat — a place of solitude — came to be.

The Most Beautiful Sunset on Con Dao

Today, Bai Nhat has transformed into the top sunset-viewing spot on the island. As late afternoon settles in, the sun slowly dips toward the sea, turning the entire sky and ocean into a radiant canvas of gold, orange, and violet.
The rhythmic sound of waves and the soft sea breeze make the moment even more poetic. Many visitors choose to sit on the velvety white sand, silently watching the last beams of light fade into the horizon — a serene, unforgettable memory on their Con Dao journey.

The beach itself is stunning: pristine white sand, crystal-clear water, and an atmosphere of absolute tranquility. Standing before Bai Nhat is Love Peak, rising 328 meters above sea level, tied to a touching legend of two lovers forbidden to be together who came to Ben Dam and embraced one another as they turned to stone — forever united.

A Witness to a Historic Prison Break

Bai Nhat is also the silent witness to a dramatic and heroic event:
the armed prison break on December 12, 1952, carried out by 198 political prisoners subjected to forced labor at Con Dao Prison.

The escape plan involved digging secret tunnels beneath the camp floor to build five wooden boats for the perilous journey across the sea. Although the attempt failed and 81 brave fighters lost their lives, the uprising remains a powerful symbol of unyielding spirit and the eternal quest for freedom.

Today, a memorial stands across from Bai Nhat, honoring those who sacrificed everything in that historic escape.
