Photoshoot in Con Dao goes viral for its swiss-like scenery

On May 20, a wedding-themed photo series featuring four different concepts by photographer Vien Dieu Phat (35, based in Ho Chi Minh City), shot in Con Dao, quickly drew the interest of travel and photography enthusiasts. The photographer shared the collection across various social media groups, where it garnered tens of thousands of likes and comments. Speaking to Tri Thuc - Znews, Phat said he was surprised to see this casual shoot with friends go viral.
The team shot the collection about a week ago, around May 14, at several locations including Bai Nhat (on the main road connecting Ben Dam Port to Con Son Town, about 6 km from the center), the stranded ship area, Ben Dam Port, and Pier 914.
Although the shoot took place at well-known spots in Con Dao, it stood out thanks to the creative camera angles, color tones, and styling, all of which conveyed the island’s tranquil charm. Under Phat’s post in the "Check in Vietnam" group, some viewers commented that the mountainous backdrop looked almost like Switzerland, while the coastal scenes resembled those of Jeju Island in South Korea.
Explaining why he chose Con Dao, Phat shared that he had long researched and identified many beautiful locations on the island but hadn’t had the chance to visit. The shoot came together during a recent leisure trip with friends in early May. Additionally, the island’s small size and the close proximity of its popular attractions made the photoshoot convenient. However, as May marks the start of the rainy season, occasional sudden showers are possible. Overall, the weather remained favorable for outdoor activities.
In addition to the wedding-themed shots, Phat also captured summer moments of the couple at the beach in Con Dao.
According to the Con Dao District Center for Culture, Information, Sports and Tourism, two-thirds of the island’s area is forested mountains. The terrain is clearly divided between mountainous and flat areas, making Con Dao ideal for a variety of activities including hiking, outdoor adventures, and scenic walks. The island’s rich ecological values are concentrated within Con Dao National Park.
Beyond the locations featured in the viral photo series, visitors to Con Dao can explore many other attractions such as Dam Tre Bay, Ong Cuong Beach, Dam Trau Beach, San Ho Beach, Ong Dung, Thanh Gia Peak, Tre Lon island, Ba island, Bay Canh island, Cau island, and Japan Stream.
