Afternoon: Explore the ‘Hell on Earth’ of Con Dao
Once known as one of the most brutal prison systems in the region, Con Dao became a harsh training ground for Vietnamese revolutionaries resisting French colonialism and the former Saigon regime.
A visit to these sites is considered a spiritual journey—an act of remembrance and deep gratitude for those who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

Historical Sites to Explore
🏛 Con Dao Museum: Preserves artifacts from the wars against France and the U.S., honoring the resilience of revolutionary soldiers and the nation’s struggle for independence.
🏠 Governor’s Palace (Dinh Chúa Đảo): Former residence and workplace of island governors, displaying objects, images, and documents tracing Con Dao’s formation from the French era to modern times.
🏚 Phu Son & Phu Hai Prisons: Where thousands of political prisoners were confined; home to infamous places such as the Rice–Grinding Tunnel and the Dark Room.
🔗 French-Style Tiger Cages: A labyrinth built to disorient and torture prisoners, hidden behind multiple gates and courtyards.
🔗 American-Style Tiger Cages: Constructed in 1971 with cramped, damp cells designed to break the prisoners’ spirit and physical strength.
🐄 Cow Shed Isolation Area: Originally livestock barns, later converted into a women’s prison and then into solitary confinement cells for disabled or resistant political prisoners.
🌺 Hang Duong Cemetery: Final resting place of tens of thousands of revolutionaries and patriots imprisoned from 1862 to 1975.
