Trekking Through Con Dao National Park

Stepping into Con Dao National Park feels like entering an endless canvas of green. Trekking trails lead you beneath dense forest canopies, past centuries-old heritage sea almond trees, and along paths filled with birdsong and fresh forest breeze. Along the way, you may encounter rare wildlife species and learn about the Nicobar pigeon — Con Dao’s iconic endemic bird.

Discovering the Nicobar Pigeon

From September 5, 2025, visitors can observe this remarkable species firsthand at the National Park’s Environmental Education Center.
Listed in both the Vietnam and global Red Books, the Nicobar pigeon is found in Vietnam only in Con Dao. With iridescent plumage shimmering in shades of jade green and deep violet, it is the last living member of the genus Caloenas — and the closest surviving relative of the legendary, extinct dodo bird.

A Panoramic View of Con Dao from Lo Voi Mountain

Another must-try experience is a trek to the summit of Lo Voi Mountain. From more than 500 meters above sea level, Con Dao unfolds in breathtaking scenery — turquoise waters, blue skies, and islets scattered like jewels offshore. It’s a perfect moment to capture sweeping photos and admire the island’s natural grandeur.

“Hiking for three hours took me from lush green forests to the place where sea, sky, and mountains meet,” shared traveler Quynh Mai.

Originally built as part of a patrol road project for forest monitoring, the trail is now being considered as a signature eco-tourism offering thanks to its spectacular landscape. Its raw, untouched beauty is exactly what sets Con Dao apart — peaceful, unhurried, and authentically wild.

Releasing Baby Turtles – Diving Among Coral Reefs

Con Dao is home to Vietnam’s largest sea turtle conservation program. Visitors can join the meaningful activity of releasing baby turtles at Bay Canh Island, contributing to marine conservation while witnessing one of nature’s most emotional moments.

Afterward, explore the vibrant underwater world by snorkeling or diving at Bay Canh or Cau Island, where colorful coral reefs and schools of fish create an enchanting ocean tableau.

As of September 7, 2025, Bay Canh has recorded 1,581 nesting sites, with over 900 successful hatchings — returning nearly 90,000 baby turtles to the sea this year alone. With 18 nesting beaches across Con Dao and nightly sightings of 5–10 mother turtles, visitors during this season have excellent chances to join a turtle-watching tour. Baby turtles are also hatching in large numbers — 15–25 nests per day — creating even more opportunities for visitors to participate in this moving experience.
