Con Dao – The 101st Protected Area Worldwide to Join the Green List

With this prestigious recognition, Con Dao National Park becomes the 101st protected area in the world, and the third in Vietnam to be Green List–certified, following Vân Long (Ninh Bình) and Cát Tiên (Đồng Nai).

The certification is awarded based on meeting 17 criteria and 50 indicators set by IUCN, encompassing governance, planning, management, and conservation outcomes. This milestone reinforces Con Dao’s standing on the global conservation map and highlights the island’s persistent efforts to preserve and restore its unique forest–marine ecosystems.

Establishment of the Con Dao Special-Use Forest Ranger Unit

During the ceremony, the National Park Management Board announced Ho Chi Minh City’s decision to establish the Special-Use Forest Ranger Unit of Con Dao National Park under its administration.
This strengthened ranger force is expected to enhance forest protection, improve management efficiency, and meet the evolving conservation needs of the region.

Community Activities and Environmental Stewardship

To mark the occasion, Con Dao National Park contributed 50 million VND through the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Con Dao District to support communities in Central and Central Highlands provinces affected by recent natural disasters.

Prior to the ceremony, delegates also participated in tree-planting at the Dat Doc Reservoir and visited a Heritage Tree within the National Park — meaningful activities that help spread the message of nature conservation and sustainable development.
