The Phu Quy Express ferry is 41 meters long, 10 meters wide, has a hull height of 4 meters, and a draft of 1.7 meters. It has a total of 374 seats, including 280 sleeper berths and 94 seats. The two-level passenger cabin is equipped with televisions, air conditioning, restrooms, fire prevention systems, and security cameras.
Mr. Ngo Quang Dao, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, shared:
“I’ve traveled to Con Dao many times using different means—flights, ferries from Vung Tau, Soc Trang, and even from Saigon. However, the ferry from Hiep Phuoc Port was quite far from the city center. So today’s departure from downtown Saigon is much more convenient.”
The ferry departs from Saigon Port, follows the Saigon–Soai Rap River channel, then heads into the East Sea to reach Con Dao. Along the journey, passengers can admire Ho Chi Minh City’s skyline, its bridges crossing the river, boats navigating the waterway, and the panoramic view of Con Dao as the ferry approaches the island. With today's calm weather and smooth seas, most passengers did not experience seasickness.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hai, another tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, said:
“Departing from the city center—specifically from Nha Rong Wharf—gave me a wonderful experience of viewing Ho Chi Minh City from the Saigon River to the Soai Rap River. The scenery was beautiful and the weather was pleasant, making for a very smooth trip.”
Ms. Le Loan Phuong, a tourist from Yen Bai Province, said:
“This experience was very enjoyable. I got to take pictures, and the onboard staff were very attentive—whatever we needed, they provided right away.”
After approximately six hours, the Phu Quy Express docked at Con Dao Passenger Port. Thanks to thorough preparation, the Ben Dam Port Management Board had arranged a smooth and safe docking process. Additionally, the Con Dao District government welcomed visitors with flowers and distributed tourism promotional materials.
The new ferry route from downtown Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao offers residents and tourists a more flexible and convenient travel option. It is expected to boost tourism, make Con Dao more accessible at a reasonable cost, and support trade and economic development by improving cargo transport between the island and the mainland.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dang, Director of Thanh Thanh Phat Passenger Transport Co., Ltd., said:
“The convenience of traveling from downtown Ho Chi Minh City directly to Con Dao has been highly anticipated by passengers. I believe this route opens up many opportunities for tourism and economic development for Con Dao.”
During its first month of operation, the Phu Quy Express is scheduled to depart from Ho Chi Minh City at 7:00 AM on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Return trips from Con Dao to Ho Chi Minh City depart at 11:30 AM on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
