This remote island off the southern coast of Vietnam is a natural paradise, a wetland recognized internationally (Ramsar), and the most important nesting site for sea turtles. Being recognized as a National Tourism Area provides significant motivation for Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province in general and Con Dao District in particular to continue striving to develop Con Dao tourism further, affirming its position on the world tourism map and deserving to be a national tourist area.

With its natural beauty, rich history, and spiritual culture, Con Dao is aiming for sustainable development through a circular economy model. Con Dao is the first locality in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province to implement this model, after the provincial government approved a project to research and apply the circular economy model to support sustainable socio-economic development in Con Dao district from 2022 to 2025, with a vision towards 2030.

Because of this, in order for Con Dao to maintain its status as a beautiful and alluring island in the eyes of both domestic and international tourists, local authorities, residents, and tourists have been working together to say No to single-use plastics and the burning of joss paper at cultural and historical sites throughout the district. Reducing one plastic bag means cutting down on the risks to marine life. Cutting back on one plastic straw reduces the worrisome about a polluted Con Dao.
