Green Offering Basket Week - Greening the Air Quality in Con Dao

The "Green Offering Basket" is an environmentally friendly basket that does not use plastic products such as foam, styrofoam, nylon, plastic bottles, etc. The size of the basket is neat and elegant, measuring 50cm in height, length, and width.

After a period of three months of implementing the Green Offering Basket on Saturdays, it has received attention from various levels, agencies, organizations, and residents, especially from international tourists. The amount of plastic waste and disposable products has significantly decreased, and the Air Quality Index (AQI) on Saturdays at the heritage sites throughout Con Dao has improved greatly.

This initiative aims to change the habit of using environmentally friendly products during gratitude and commemoration activities, reduce plastic waste, and protect the green, clean, and beautiful environment of Con Dao. The ultimate goal is to restrict the burning of disposable products at these locations.

 

 

With the success of the Saturday Green Offering Basket program, the National Relic Conservation Center of Con Dao will continue to maintain and implement both the Saturday Green Offering Basket and the Green Offering Basket Week activities simultaneously.

 


The Green Offering Basket Week will be implemented a week over a month (during the first week of each month). During the Green Offering Basket Week, people and tourists participate in activities such as visiting and offering at the Hàng Dương Cemetery, temples, and other relic sites, while saying no to burning offerings and single-use plastic bags and products. Instead, they use environmentally friendly alternatives based on the criteria of the Green Offering Basket.

In addition to implementing the Green Offering Basket Week, the National Relic Conservation Center of Con Dao encourages people and tourists to participate in visiting activities at heritage sites that implement the Green Offering Basket on all days.
The schedule for implementing the Green Offering Basket Week is as follows:
* The first Green Offering Basket Week of October 2024:
- Duration: From October 1, 2024, to October 6, 2024
- Locations: Hàng Dương Cemetery, temples, Hàng Keo Cemetery, and other relic sites.
* The Green Offering Basket Week of November 2024:
- Duration: From November 4, 2024, to November 10, 2024
- Locations: Hàng Dương Cemetery, temples, Hàng Keo Cemetery, and other heritage sites.
* The Green Offering Basket Week of December 2024:
- Duration: From December 2, 2024, to December 8, 2024
- Locations: Hàng Dương Cemetery, temples, Hàng Keo Cemetery, and other heritage sites.

Starting from January 1, 2025: The Hàng Dương Cemetery, temples, and other heritage sites within the Special National Historical Site of Con Dao will implement the Green Offering Basket on all days. Using the Green Offering Basket is one of the ways for residents and tourists to contribute to reducing plastic waste and disposable products in Con Dao."
