Marine economic development associated with environmental protection (environmental protection) is one of the main contents in the action program "Sustainable economic development of BR-VT sea". Accordingly, BR-VT will make the most of advantages from the sea for economic development and at the same time promote marine environmental protection activities.

TAKING ADVANTAGES TO DEVELOP

BR-VT has a long coastline of 312.8km with 7/8 districts and cities adjacent to the sea. BR-VT is also the locality with the advantage of deep water port and abundant natural resources; is the gateway to the sea of the Southeast region. With that potential, BR-VT has many advantages to develop marine economy, especially oil and gas exploitation; sea food; tourism and seaports.

According to the orientation of the province until 2020, BR-VT will become a modern industrial and seaport province. The capacity of BR-VT seaport system can ensure throughput of about 101-109 million tons / year (expected to 2020); about 133.2-149.4 million tons / year (2025) and by 2030 will be about 161.8-195.5 million tons / year.

In addition to seaports, the fishing industry - processing seafood is also one of the strengths in marine economic development. BR-VT currently has 6,200 fishing boats. Over the past years, the province has always focused on developing and upgrading fishing port systems, ensuring a favorable access to boats. Mr. Tran Van Cuong, Director of Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: Currently, the province has 18 fishing ports in operation, of which, there are 7 ports with solid wharves. Some fishing ports are invested with modern equipment such as Hung Thai and Loc An fishing ports. These ports can fully implement fishery logistic services, and also where ships can anchor. , stay safe from storms. In the development of tourism and BR-VT, it is determined to maximize the exploitation of sea and island tourism. In 2019, the province aims to attract 3.53 million visitors, an increase of 14% compared to 2018. Currently, the province has 3 popular tourist destinations in the country and the world (Vung Tau, Long Hai and Con Dao) each year, attracting millions of domestic and international visitors. In particular, Con Dao with unique wild character is being oriented to become a unique national tourist area, regional and international.

DEVELOPING THE SEA ECONOMY BY SUSTAINABLE DIRECTION

In recent years, BR-VT province has persevered with the goal of attracting selective investment, willing to reject billions of USD projects if it does not ensure sustainable factors and harm the environment. Specifically, the province has always determined that marine economic development must be based on marine and island resources, managed, protected, exploited and used rationally, effectively and sustainably according to strategies, planning and plans serves for socio-economic development, national sovereignty protection, national defense and security.
The provincial party committee implemented resolution no. 36-NQ / TW dated October 22, 2018 of the Central Executive Committee on the Strategy for Sustainable Development of Vietnam's Marine Economy by 2030, with a vision to 2045 with the spirit of cross-border throughout the "Sustainable development of marine economy on the basis of green growth". In addition, the Provincial People's Committee also issued the Strategy "Exploiting, sustainable use of marine resources and environmental protection up to 2020, vision to 2030".

According to Mr. Le Ngoc Linh, Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, this strategy targets big projects such as: Investigation and assessment of reserves and situation of exploitation of minerals and construction materials in coastal areas; direct control of waste sources causing pollution and environmental degradation in coastal areas and coastal estuaries; survey, evaluate, map ecosystems of wetlands, mangrove forests, specific ecosystems; planning the integrated monitoring network of resources - environment of the sea, islands and coastal areas ...

World Ocean Day 2019 with the theme "Gender and Ocean" is a call for us to be responsible for taking care of the blue ocean by connecting, spreading and inspiring towards gender equality, giving rights for women and girls around the world in all areas related to the ocean.

For activities of organizing the Vietnam Sea and Island Week, responding to World Ocean Day in 2019, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment requires agencies, departments, branches and localities to focus on propagating and popularizing roads. Party's policies and guidelines and the State's policies and laws on issues related to the sea and islands of Vietnam, especially the Resolution of the 8th Central Executive Committee (Session XII) on the Strategy sustainable development of Vietnam's marine economy by 2030, with a vision to 2045.

However, in order to effectively manage and exploit marine resources, each mass organization, every citizen must raise awareness of sustainable management, protection and development of sea and islands. This is the "key" to promote the advantages and potentials of sea and islands, creating a breakthrough in socio-economic development for the locality.
