Delegates carried out the opening ceremony of the online 3D exhibition "Con Dao - The Epic Tale Amidst the Vast Sea."
With over 300 selected documents, images, and artifacts from the National Archives Centers, the Con Dao National Monuments Conservation Center, and other collection sources, the history of the formation and development of Con Dao is vividly presented in the exhibition, highlighting the Con Dao Prison system as a symbol of the resilient spirit and strong will to learn of revolutionary soldiers and patriotic Vietnamese compatriots who were imprisoned here. In addition, the exhibition also contributes to raising awareness about the significance and importance of islands and seas for national defense and sustainable development. The exhibition is held online in both Vietnamese and English, inviting the domestic and international public to explore Con Dao from its early days to the present. The exhibition consists of three parts: Con Dao in Its Primal State; Con Dao Prison - From Hell on Earth to Revolutionary Struggle School; Con Dao - From Epic History to Tourist Paradise. Part 1, Con Dao in Its Primal State, introduces archaeological sites and relics from prehistoric and early historic times, showing the presence and development of ancient Vietnamese people thousands of years ago in Con Dao. This also marks the nation's territorial sovereignty assertion over the Eastern Sea region. During the reign of Lord Nguyen and the Nguyen Dynasty, Con Dao entered a new phase of development. Lord Nguyen established control over the archipelago in the late 17th century, and during the Nguyen Dynasty, he recruited residents, supported settlement, developed the economy, while also using the island as a place to detain criminals and reinforce management of this strategically important maritime area. Part 2, Con Dao Prison - From Hell on Earth to Revolutionary Struggle School, the public will witness a Con Dao full of suffering during the French colonial and American imperialist invasions, where thousands of revolutionary soldiers and patriotic compatriots were tortured, but it was also here that many resistance movements and struggles for independence formed. The exhibition will recreate the activities of some prominent movements, such as the anti-secession movement, the flag salute protest, document exchange, and the preservation of the integrity of steadfast communist soldiers, who created a "revolutionary struggle school" right in the prison. Part 3, Con Dao - From Epic History to Tourist Paradise, will help the public understand more about the strong transformation of Con Dao, from a "hell on earth" to a tourist paradise. This is the first time an online exhibition has been organized in Con Dao District. The exhibition contributes to providing an interesting experience for the public about the formation and development of Con Dao through digital technology.
