On June 4th and 5th, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Vietnam cooperated with the Management Board of Con Dao National Park to organize training to supervise beach plastic waste for forest rangers.
Training methods of survey and supervision of marine waste, classification of marine and plastic waste;
Participating in the training course, officials and forest rangers of the National Park Management Board provided an overview of the current status of marine and garbage waste pollution by in Vietnam; methods of survey and supervision of marine waste, classification of marine and plastic waste;
At the end of the theoretical training, officials and forest rangers conducted plastic waste collection at 03 beaches: Ong Dung, BaiVong and Hon Ba. From the collected waste, the forces classified, updated and processed plastic waste data and developed an overview report on the current situation of plastic waste in the sea in the monitoring area.
It is known that the goal of the program is to build a common method that can be applied to all locations in the coastal areas of Vietnam in developing documents "Methods for monitoring marine waste and regional plastic pollution at costal area." based on the guidance of the US Oceanic Atmospheric Administration and the United Nations Program on Environment.
Con Dao is one of 12 national parks and marine protected areas selected by the International Nature Conservancy to implement the beach plastic waste monitoring program. Through the program, the International Nature Conservation Organization collects, analyzes and evaluates information, data, sources, percentages between different types of garbage and the fluctuation of plastic waste at the beach for an overview of plastic waste in the area. Since then, set out the tasks and solutions to protect the environment appropriately; at the same time as a basis for reporting and proposing local administrations at all levels and concerned parties in promulgating mechanisms and policies for managing and implementing environmental protection, pollution prevention and combat activities as plastic; propagandize and mobilize the community of people living in and around the nature reserve to have awareness and responsibility in environmental protection, especially the use and treatment of plastic waste.
