ONLINE CENTRAL CONFERENCE SUMMARY OF THE PREVENTION OF NATURAL PREVENTION 2018

According to a report presented by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Standing Vice Chairman of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Nguyen XuanCuong, natural disasters have been taking place very seriously with extremely extreme and extraordinary factors, difficult to forecast and warn.

Despite there are many great efforts, human and property losses were reduced, but still heavy with 224 people dead and missing in 2018 (down 30% from 2017, 386), economic damage is about 20,000 billion dong (67% lower than 2017 of 60,000 billion dong).

From the beginning of 2019, there have been 12 types of natural disasters across the country, causing 23 people to die and disappear. Total economic losses are estimated at over VND 337 billion. Due to the impacts of climate change, sea level rise, natural disasters are more unusual and extreme in terms of intensity, time, location and irregular rules.

According to the National Center for Hydrometeorology Forecasting, in 2019, typhoon activity is later than the average of many years (AMY). The number of storms and tropical depressions is less than that of AMY. The rainy season, which usually starts in July, is expected to occur around 10-12 storms or tropical depressions operating in the South China Sea region from July to December 2019.

Regarding disaster prevention in the coming time, Minister Nguyen XuanCuong said that a national disaster prevention and control center will be built at the end of 2019. Building a master plan for natural disaster prevention in the areas: Northern mountainous region (focusing mainly on improving capacity to respond to flash floods and landslides); Central and Central Highlands (improving capacity to respond to strong storms, super typhoons, especially in areas with little storms) and implementing the Government's Resolution 120 on the Mekong Delta. Completing the installation of pilot flash flood warning landslides in some mountainous provinces. At the same time, it is required that localities pay attention to drastically direct and proactively prevent natural disasters and search and rescue; not to be surprised, passive in any situation.

Also at the conference, the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention rewarded collectives and individuals for their outstanding achievements in disaster prevention and combat and search and rescue in 2018.

The online conference was held in Hanoi, connected to the bridge points in 63 provinces, cities, 577 districts and districts, and 664 communes with a total of 28,571 people. Particularly in Con Dao district, there were more than 30 participants.
