A Sacred Atmosphere at An Son Shrine

From early afternoon, crowds of locals and visitors gathered at An Son Shrine, where the space was adorned with flags, ceremonial banners, and vibrant yet dignified decorations. The echo of drums and gongs signaled the beginning of the ritual.

The ceremonial committee conducted incense offerings and prayers to seek permission from Lady Phi Yen before receiving the spirit tablet of Prince Cai. As the invocation resounded through the shrine, the atmosphere grew still and reverent—a moment filled with spiritual emotion.
The Procession from An Son Shrine to Mieu Cau

Following the invocation, the procession set off. Leading the way were the unicorn dance troupe and the gong-and-drum ensemble, followed by the palanquin, ceremonial attendants, and a long line of participants walking in harmony.

The procession moved through the central streets of the island district, creating a vibrant cultural scene where traditional colors blended with rhythmic drumbeats. Many visitors stood respectfully along the roadside, while others captured the rare and moving moments of a ritual found only in Con Dao.

At Mieu Cau in Co Ong, a site closely associated with the legend of Prince Cai, the ceremony continued with incense offerings and the official reception of the spirit tablet. Local residents shared that this moment always carries deep emotions, recalling the poignant yet powerful story of maternal love between Lady Phi Yen and her son.

The Spirit Tablet Returns to An Son Shrine

After the return procession, the spirit tablet of Prince Cai was ceremonially enshrined in the main hall of An Son Shrine. The enthronement took place before a large gathering of locals, visitors, and delegations.

The fragrance of incense filled the air as wooden clappers and prayers echoed throughout the shrine, creating a warm, sacred atmosphere where the community came together to express gratitude and pray for peace and harmony for Con Dao.
