Summer months are the low season for international visitors to Vietnam, however, the number of visitors has increased significantly, of which arrivals by sea increased by 159.5% (reaching 15,562 times); Arrivals by land increased by 64.8% (reaching 196,689 turns); Arrivals by air increased 12.0% (reaching 948.863).
It is estimated that numbers of international visitors to Vietnam in the first five months of 2018 reached 6,708,428 arrivals, an increase of 27.6% over the same period in 2017. Of which, most of the guest markets went up: from the Asia North East market, South Korean tourists continued to maintain the highest growth rate with 62.1% (reaching 1,441,756 arrivals), followed by China with 37.0% (2,153,302 arrivals), Taiwan increased by 14.5% (283,550 visitors); Meanwhile, the Japanese market increased by 6.6% (344,264 visitors). In Europe, the markets also grew well, Italy (+ 18.3%), Denmark (+ 18.1%), Sweden (+ 16.4%), the United States (+ 15.8%), France (+ 13.1%), Russia (+ 9.2%). The Americas and Australia continued to grow at double digits. African countries, although the number of visitors is not large, but the growth rate in the past 5 months reached 20.9%.
In the first five months, domestic tourists were estimated at 36.2 million, of which 17.4 million were staying. Total revenue from tourists is estimated at 260.2 trillion dong, up 22.6 percent over the same period last year.
