Con Dao opens Sports Festival to celebrate major holidays in April and May, 2025

On April 27, Con Dao District held the opening ceremony of the Sports Festival in celebration of major national holidays taking place in April and May. Attendees included Mr. Phan Thanh Bien, Permanent Deputy Secretary and Chairman of the District People’s Council; Mr. Phan Trong Hien, Deputy Secretary and Chairman of the District People’s Committee; along with representatives from the District People’s Council, People’s Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, government agencies, armed forces, local residents, tourists, and students.

The Sports Festival features a variety of competitions, including men’s and women’s football, running, men’s volleyball, recreational volleyball, badminton, table tennis, and pickleball. The event aims to promote physical exercise and sports among the local community, while also fostering solidarity, networking, and mutual learning among local agencies, organizations, and residents.

 


Immediately following the opening ceremony, athletes participated in a commemorative run marking the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and Con Dao. The race included two distances: 3 km for women and 5.5 km for men, with competitors divided into two age groups: under 18 and over 18 years old.

At the conclusion of the race, the Organizing Committee awarded prizes as follows:

  • Men’s under-18 winner: Danh Nghia from Le Hong Phong Secondary School

  • Men’s over-18 winner: Le Van Chi Cong from Residential Area No. 9

  • Women’s under-18 winner: Ho Ngoc Ha from Vo Thi Sau High School

  • Women’s over-18 winner: Phan Thi Thu Hoai from Con Dao Airport

In addition to the top prizes, the committee also awarded second, third, and consolation prizes, as well as special awards for the youngest and oldest participants, and a prize for a tourist who joined the race.
