The Ministry of Industry and Trade has just sent a document to the ministries and the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, and the People's Committee of Soc Trang province to get opinions on the investment policy of the project of power supply from the national grid for Con Dao district (Ba Ria - Vung Tau province).
Previously, Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to preside over and coordinate with the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Finance and related agencies to organize the appraisal of the project's investment policy proposal and submit it to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision.
According to the report of the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) on the grid power supply project for Con Dao, Con Dao district is currently supplied with electricity from the main source of An Hoi diesel plant and An Hoi expanded diesel power plant including 9 units with a total installed capacity of 11,820 kW.
Due to limited power supply in the district, in recent years, it has only met electricity demand for domestic use and a part of electricity for service and tourism needs.
It is forecasted that the electricity demand for the island district by 2025 will be about 28.7 MW, an increase of more than 3 times, to 87.6 MW in 2030 and reach 94 MW in 2035.
With this prediction, the investment in power supply lines from the national grid for Con Dao district contributes to stabilizing and improving the living standards of people, army, and coast guard forces on the island, developing tourism potential, and industries such as ship repair, fishery logistics.
In the report, EVN has proposed construction options for the 110 kV transmission line, the location of the substation, and the submarine cable route from Vinh Chau (Soc Trang province) to Con Dao. It is planned to build a new 110 kV line with a length of about 102.5 km from Vinh Chau 220 kV substation (Soc Trang) to Con Dao 110/22 kV substation, 110 kV underground cable line with a length of about 6.1 km.
In addition, the project also invests in expanding the existing substations in Vinh Chau (Soc Trang) and Con Dao to meet the grid power supply from the mainland to the island.
According to EVN's calculations, the total investment for the project of pulling electricity from the grid to Con Dao is more than VND 4,950 billion, expected to be implemented from 2022 to 2025.
Also according to EVN, the electricity purchase price of this project is 1,593.2 VND/kWh, which is the average wholesale price between EVN and the Southern Power Corporation.
For the price of electricity, when this island district is supplied with electricity from the national grid, the selling price will be consistent with the entire national electricity system, calculated according to the weighted average price for the related types of loads following the regulations of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, which is 2,429.6 VND/kWh.
