Con Dao Prison Relic, a special national monument, is a place marking the tradition of Vietnamese patriotic heroes, soldiers and compatriots‘ indomitable struggle during 113 years against French colonialism and American imperialism. Con Dao Museum construction was started on 6th December, 2009, with the support of the Ha Noi party, authorities, people and Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, completed on 10th October, 2010 which was one of the construction to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi
The museum is located on Nguyen Hue Street, near the relics of the French Tiger Cage, in an area of more than 2 hectares, construction area of 3,570 m2, exhibition area of 1,700m2
Con Dao Museum exhibits 01 parlour with 04 themes:
Theme 1: Con Dao human and nature
Theme 2: Con Dao hell on earth
Theme 3: Con Dao front line and school.
Theme 4: Con Dao today.
In addition, the museum also has a gallery, thematic exhibitions.
The parlour is a cluster of 6m high stainless steel statues expressing the brave mettle of the Communists with the desire for freedom, The outstretched arm breaks the shackles associated with the dove's wings of peace.
Behind is a stone wall made up of intertwined layers of stone, on the surface of which is the prison number symbolizes many generations of Con Dao prisoners.
Con Dao Museum is a place to preserve, display, preserve and introduce historical and cultural artifacts of Con Dao human and land through historical periods.
With 2000 documents and artifacts on display, coming to Con Dao Museum you will have a deeper understanding of nature and people of Con Dao from prehistory to current development and learn about the history of Con Dao prison, which is known as "Hell on Earth". Images and portraits of patriotic officers, images of prisoners imprisoned, tortured, exiled in Indochina's largest harsh prison regime.
