According to Hoang Nhan Chinh, head of TAB Secretariat, set of indicators contributes to improve the ranking of Vietnam's tourism competitiveness to 6-10 levels; Reduce bad impression of international tourists in Vietnam tourism from 5-10% and increase the index of international tourists back to Vietnam tourism from 2-4%.

"Thanks to set of indicators, we will know the strengths and weaknesses of Vietnam's tourism at destinations to change. TAB will coordinate with a number of other stakeholders, national and international experts to develop indicators, "said Hoang Nhan Chinh.

It is known that Resolution 19 of Government in 2018 has assigned Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to study a set of sustainable development criteria for destinations and stated that Vietnam needs to put the ranking of tourist destinations.

"We find it necessary to address this issue both in implementing Resolution 19 and in improving destinations. In the short term, we expect to implement at 5-8 pilot sites in Vietnam and propose to Government Department for Private Sector Development (IV) to report to the Government, issue indicators and organizations. Grading and publication every year, starting in 2019. Since then, destination management has learned that their ranking in the country is ranked by how much, continue to improve how to destination ranked higher in later years.

Mr. Hoang Nhan Chinh said that indicator will study other indicators in the world and ASEAN in line with the general trend.

It is known, competitiveness index of Vietnam in 2017 ranked 67/136 countries.

According to this ranking, the main driving force for boosting Vietnam's tourism competitiveness is natural resources, cultural resources and price competitiveness. The bottlenecks Vietnam needs to overcome is to focus on environmental sustainability; loose regulations; high emission levels; Deforestation and water scarcity are reducing the environment.

According to Mr.Hoang Nhan Chinh, one weakness is that tourism industry has not been surveyed and specific statistics to be able to rate how many % of return visitors.

"This is also a weak point that we need to propose: 2-3 years / time will investigate at the destination to improve problem of return visitors to Vietnam," said Hoang Nhan Chinh.

At present, TAB is introducing some ideas to set up a set of indicators: specialists will not be alone from TAB but from many parties such as tourism associations, independent tourism experts; Tourism Administration, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism ... to develop a set of indicators that can be applied for a long time.

It is expected that by the middle of 2019, set of indicators will be ready for the second half of 2019 to be submitted to the Government for consideration and promulgation.
