Speaking at the ceremony, Director General Nguyen Van Tuan has outlined the path of establishment and development of Viet Nam tourism industry in nearly six decades. With the attention of Party, State and with efforts of tourism sector, Vietnam Tourism has overcome difficulties and challenges to develop strongly and contribute positively to the cause of socio-economic development of the country through the phases. The tourism sector has achieved remarkable results with 10 million international tourists, up 26% compared to 2015, 62 million domestic visitors in 2016. Total direct income from visitors was VND 400.000 billion. Following that achievement, in the first 6 months of 2017, Vietnam tourism continued to bring breakthrough with 6.2 million international tourists, up 33% compared to the same period of 2016; 47 million domestic visitors, up over 15% compared to the same period of 2016, total direct income from tourism reached VND 255.000 billion. The Politburo issued Resolution 08 on Tourism Development on January 16, 1974. According to this Resolution, Tourism will become a key economic sector. It also set a great target for tourism by 2020 to welcome 17-20 million international visitors and about 82 million domestic visitors and contribute about 10% of GDP to national economy.

To achieve this goal, the Resolution also sets out groups of measures to facilitate for development of Vietnam tourism.
Director General Nguyen Van Tuan also pleased to announce that the National Assembly has officially approved the Law on Tourism 2017 on 19 June. This Law, developed from Tourism Law 2005, creates favorable legal bases with many new and disruptive content to create the motivation for tourism development.
Vietnam Tourism has just successfully organized a summit for sustainable tourism development. This also expresses our responsibility to APEC community and creates a growing ratio in the national economy as well as bring more jobs, income for workers all over the country.
"The tourism industry has received a great attention from the Party and the State. This opened new opportunities and new phase for tourism. But it also require agencies, organizations and labourers in tourism industry have to try their best for development of tourism " said Director General Nguyen Van Tuan.
After the rally, a parade of students traveled on the street to carry the message to community for propagating, raising the awareness of society about tourism and together to contribute to the development of Vietnam Tourism.
